Pithoragarh is the eastem-most district of Kumaon regin of Uttarkhand, bordered by Tibet on the north and Nepal on the east. The northem part of the district is adorned with many lofty perpetually snow covered peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nandakhat. Rajram and panchchuli group, and many charming alpine meadows and glaciers like Milam glacier, Ralam glacier, Namik glacier and sunder Dhunga glacier, The town, at an altitude of 1645 m, is situated in a small valley of 5 km. popularly known as the soar Valley,
 

it lies at the centre of four hills – Chandak Dhwaj Thal Kedar and Kundar. It is quite pictueresque and often referred to as ‘Mini Kashmir’. Pithoragarh was once a stronghold of the Chand Rajas, and the temples and ruined fort bear witness to their rule. A week-long festival, sardotsav, is organized here every year during October-November.
The town is situated on the lod trade route to Tibeet and en rout to the sacred trail to Kailash Mansarovar.

Airport – Delhi (503 km)
Railhead –Tanakpur (151 km)
Road – Take the National Highway 24 to Moradabad; national Highway 87 till Kathgodam and then the district road to Pithoragarh via Almora.
