East India  >> Jharkhand  >>  Mc Cluskieganj

It is a town in the state of Jharkhand located north-west of its capital city of Ranchi. The town once used to have a significant Anglo-Indian community but gradually it is on the decline.

In the year 1932. the founder of the town, Ernest Timothy McCluskie, shot-off letters to about two lakh Anglo-Indians in India, extending them an invitation to come over and settle in this place. McCluskieganj was home to 400 Anglo-Indian families within 10 years.

The once inhabited cottages, gardens and clubs now lie in a dilapidated state and remind us of the lifestyle and culture of Anglo-Indian community of those times. The place is now primarily housing the retired officers and army men.

The promenades along the paths offer a rewarding experience in terms of Tranquility and leisure and this is the reason why people get enamoured by this quaint town.
