The topography of Andhra Pradesh varies form the high ranges of the Eastern Ghats and the Nallamala hill to the shores of the Bay of Bengal. The hill ranges are often under dense forest cover and the shrubbery is anything between moist evergreen forest in the hills to the dry thorny shrub in the Anantapur platean.
Correspondingly, the fauna is as varied as the flora and a large number of animals including tigers, panthers, sloth bears. Wolves and a variety of herbivores and bird can be founding every region.
   
  Coringa Sanctuary
 
East Godavari district, 236 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: The sanctuary is part of the estuary of river Godavari and supports a rich growth of mangrove vegetation with plants like Rhizophora, Avicennia, Sonneratia, Aegiecros etc. Animal found are Fishing cat, Otter, Jackal, Sea turtle and estuarine crocodile which are found in the creeks. Among the birds, most common are Seagulls, Storks, Herons, Snipes, Ducks and Flamingos. Accessibility: 20 kms from Kakinda railway station and 70 kms from Rajahmundry railway station Accommodation: Forest rest house at Coringa & Rajahmundry. Season: October to May.

  Eturunagaram Sanctuary
 
Warngal dist., 806 Sq. km. Flora & Fauna: Dry deciduous Teak forest with Bamboo, Pterocarpus, anogeissus, Buchanania etc. Rolling country with low hills with Tiger, Panther, Gaur, Sambar, Cheetal, Nilgai, Black buck, Chowsingha, Barking deer, wild boar, wolf, Jackal, Fox, Jungle cat and variety of birds. Accessibility: 90 Km. form Warangal/Kazipet railway station: 250 km fro Hyderabad by road. Nearest airport-Hyderabad. Accommodation: Forest cottages and Rest house at Tadvai, ITDA Guest house at Eturungaram. Season: October to May.

  Gundla Brahmeswaram Sanctuary
 
Kurnool & Prakasam districts; 1194 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Mixed deciduous forests of Teak, Pterocarpus, terminalia, Albizzia, Anogeissius, Dalbergia, Boswellia, Shisham, Andug & Bamboo. The Gundlabrahmeswaram plateau runs South-North of the Nallamalai hill range and a perennial river, Gundlakamma, crisis crosses through the sanctuary. Animals found are Tiger, Panther, Sloth bear, Wild dog, Hyena, Jungle cat, Langur, Bonnet monkey, Pangolin, Sambar, Nilgai, Chowsingha, Chinkara, Mouse deer, Monitor lizard, Python and Marsh crocodile. Accessibility: 100 km from Kurnool railway station or 30 km from Nandyal railway station. Accommodation: Inspection bungalow at Nandyal and Forest rest house at Diguvametta. Season: October to May.

Kaundinya Sanctuary (Project Elephant)
 
Chittoor District; 358 sq Km. Flora & Fauna: Southern tropical thorn type of forests consisting of Albizzias & Ficus species. Animals found are Indian Elephant, Sloth bear, Panther, Cheetal, Chowsingha, Sambar, Porcupine, Wild boar, Jungle cat, Jackal, Junglefowl & Slender loris.
Accessibility: 50 km. By road from Chittoor; 120 km. From Bangalore. Nearest airport-Bangalore. Accommodation: Forest guest house at Palamaneru. Season: October to April.

  Krishna Sanctuary
 
Krishna and Guntur districts: 195 sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Mangrove forests on the estuary of river Krishna harboring Fishing Cat, Otter, Jackal, Estuarine crocodile and a variety of seasonal birds. Accessibility: 80 Km. by road from Vijayawada railway station. Season: October to February.

  Indira Gandhi Zoo Park
 
This Zoo on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam is spread over 450 acres in a beautiful valley. This is die second zoo in the state after the one at Hyderabad.
   
  Papikonda Sanctuary
 
East Godavari, west Godavari & Khammam districts; 591 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Dry deciduous teak forests with Bamboo, Terminalia, Pterocarpus, etc., and other species conforming to the Eastern ghat vegetation. Animals found are Tiger, Panther, Gaur, Cheetal, Chowsingha, Sambar, black buck, Mouse deer, Barking deer, Sloth bear, Wild dog, Hyena, Jackal, Wild boar, Marsh crocodile and a variety of birds-both resident and migratory. Accessibility: 50 km. from Rajahmundry railway station. Accommodation: Forest houses at Rajahmundry , Maredumilli and Kannapuram. Season: October to May.

  Pranahita Sanctuary
 
Adilabad district; 136 Sq. Km Flora & Fauna: Dry deciduous Teak forests along river Pranahita, a tributary of river Godavari. The terrain is undulating and supports Tiger, Panther, Sloth bear, Cheetal, Black Buck, Nilgai and a variety of birds including Brahminy duck, Teals, Storks and Herons. Accessibility: 70 Km. from Mancherial railway station; 300 km from Hyderabad by road. Nearest airport-Hyderabad. Accommodation: Forest rest house at Mancherial and Chinnur. Season: November to April.

Kinnerasani Sanctuary
 
Khammam district: 656 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Dry deciduous Teak forests with Bamboo, Terminalias, Anogeissus etc. The Kinnerasani lake is picturesque. Animals found are Tiger, Panther, Gaur, Cheetal, Black buck, Chinkara, Chowsingha, Sambar, Wild boar, Wild dog, Hyena, Jackal, Sloth bear and a variety of ground nesting and aquatic birds. The Kinnerasani lake and water pools harbour marsh crocodile. Accessibility: 25 km from Bhadrachalam Road railway station Accommodation: Forest rest houses at Paloncha & Kothagudem.   Sri Lankamalleswara Sanctuary
 
Cuddapah district, 464 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Dry deciduous mixed thorn forests with deep gorges and steep slopes. Red sanders, an endemic species is found in this area. Animals found are Panther, Sloth bear, Cheetal, Sambar, Chowsingha, Chinkara, Nilgai, Wild boar & Fox. This sanctuary is the habitat for the rare and endangered bird called Double banded or the Jerdon's Courser.

  Nehru Zoological Park
 
Located in Hyderabad, the Nehru Zoological Park is considered the largest in India . Situated about 8 Km to the south of Charminar, over 250 species of animals and birds are housed in a lush green park sprawling over 300 acres. The Lion safari park, natural history museum and the children's train are the added attractions.
   
  Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park
 
Hyderabad: 1.45 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Southern tropical dry deciduous forest and the last vestigial representative of the endemic flora of Hyderabad region. No large mammals are present other than a few Cheetals, Jackals, Mongooses, Wild boars etc., and over 100 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles and 15 species of butterflies. Accessibility: Located in the heart of Hyderabad City. Season: Throughout the year.

Kolleru Sanctuary
 
West Godavari district: 673 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: It is a wetland, marsh habitat supporting a large variety of water birds, Garganys, Teals, Pochards, Spot bills, Brahminy ducks, Open bill storks, Herons, occasionally Flamingos & Grey Pelicans. Accessibility: 60 Km. By road from Vijayawada railway station. Accommodation: Forest rest houses at Vijayawada & Eluru. Season: October to May.

  Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park
 
Hyderabad : 14.59 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Dry scrub jungle with grass lands. Originally this area was a Shikargah of the erstwhile Nizam of Hyderabad but due to over hunting and overuse the wildlife got depleted. With strict protection and management the wildlife of this area got re-established and at present there are more than 350 Black bucks, 400 Cheetals, and a number of Wild boars, small mammals, reptiles and over 100 species of birds.

  Manjira Sanctuary
 
Medak district: 20 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Riverine habitat supporting Marsh crocodiles and a variety of water birds. Accessibility: 50 Km by road from Hyderabad. Accommodation: Inspection bungalows at Sangareddy & Sadasivapet. Season: October to June.

  Mrugavani National Park (Chilkur)
 
Hyderabad City; 3.60 Sq. km. Flora & Fauna: Southern tropical dry deciduous forests of degraded nature. The topography is undulating having rocky exposures of the Deccan trap formation. The park is endowed with the last vestiges of the endemic flora of Hyderabad and is an urban refuge for small mammals like Wildboar, Jungle Cat, Civet Cat, Mongoose, Monitor lizard, Python, Russel's viper, Cobra, Grey partridge, Quail, Cheetal, Sambar & Butterflies. Accessibility: 25 Km. by road from Hyderabad.

  Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Sanctuary (Project Tiger)
 
Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool, Mahboobnagar and Nalgonda districts: 3568 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: Dry deciduous mixed forests along the river Krishna which cuts through Nallamalai hills forming deep gorges and valleys. Animals found are Tiger, Panther, Sloth bear, Wild dog, Jackal, Wolf, Fox, Ratel, Indian giant squirrel, Tree shrew, Cheetal, Mouse deer, Black buck, Sambar, Chowsingha, Nilgai & Wild boar. Nelapattu Sanctuary
 
Nellore district; 4.4 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: A small fresh water irrigation tank with Barringtonia trees providing nesting ground for Grey pelican, Open bill stork, White lbis, Night heron, Cormorant, Teals, Ducks etc. Villagers of Nelapattu offer full protection to these birds.

Nellore district; 500 Sq. Km. Flora & Fauna: A vast coastline shallow, brackish water lake along the coast of Bay of Bengal. The back waters attract large congregation of Greater and Lesser Flamingos, Grey pelican, Painted stork, Grey heron, Ducks, Teals, Terns, Herons, Gull and a number a waders.

Kurnool, district; 6.14 Sq, km. Flora & Fauna: Open grass land interspersed with dry thorny bushes. Home for the endangered Great Indian Bustard. Chittoor & Cuddapah districts; 506 Sq. km. Flora & Fauna: Dry deciduous mixed, forests with patches of moist deciduous forests in the valleys. Some of the rare and endemic plant species like Red Sanders Shorea talura, Shorea thumbuggia, Terminalia pallida, Sandalwood, Cycas beddomei, Syzygium alternifolium, Psilotumnudam etc., occur in this area. The animals found are Panther, Sloth bear, Sambar, Cheetal, Mouse deer, Barking deer, Chowsingha, Wild boar, wild dog, Hyena. Jackal.
