Sivaganga District Tourist Place
 

Sivagangai is the district head quarters of Sivagangai District. It is situated 45 kms south East of Madurai and 17 kms north of Manamadurai. It is connected by road and rail with all-important towns in the state. The founder of Sivagangai was Sasivarnana Periya Udaya Thevar and he was the first king of Sivagangai dynasty. The palace of the ex rulers of Sivagangai can be seen here ie. the Sree Viswanatha and Sree Subramaniya temples. There is a big Teppakkulam or Tank in front of the palace, which adds to the splendour of the town.

Pilliarpatti
 
It is situated 15 kms west of Karaikudi 8 kms east of Thirupattur and 68 kms east of Madurai. At the end of the road here the famous Karpaka Vinayakar Temple can be seen here. The village derives its name i.e., Pillaiyar village from the temple. The presiding deity is called Karpaga Pillaiyar, and it is 6 feet high and 5 feet wide. People from various parts of the state come here everyday and large number of pilgrims assemble here during the festival season. Every year during August-September the Ganesh Chathruthi festival is celebrated here.
 
Kundrakudi
 
Kundrakudi is situated 11 kms east of Thiruppathur and 11 kms west of Karaikudi Railway station. In Tamil, kundram means hillock and kudi means village. This place is famous only for its temples. At the top of the hillock there is a temple in which the presiding by Lord Subramaniya with six faces towards the east. The main festivals are visakam in May, kiruthigai in July, skandhashasti in November, poosam in February and uthiram in April. This place attracts large number of pilgrims throughout the year.
 
Karaikudi
 
Karaikudi is the taluk headquarters of Karaikudi taluk. It is situated on the enroute of to Rameswaram. Karaikudi is famous for its temple. During May-June 10 days Visakam festival is conducted in the Koppudaiyanayaki Amman Temple. It is situated 143 kms from Rameswaram. It is well connected with rail and road to important towns in the state.

Kalaiyarkoil
 
It is situated 15 kms east of Sivagangai, 30 kms from west of Devakottai and 60 kms south east of the Madurai Thondi Road. Kalaiyarkoil derived its name the Kaleswaran temple here. Kalaiyarkoil was the stronghold of the rulers of Sivagangai with a well-built extensive fort. The temple here is a very large building surrounded by a strong stonewalls which is about 18 feet height. The tomb of Marudhu can be seen to the east of the temple facing the old entrance. Saints Gnanasambandar, Sundarar, Appar and Arunagirinathar have visited this temple and sung in praise in their sacred poems. Every year during May-June the vaikasi Festival during Jan-Feb and the Thaipoosam festival are celebrated here. During the festival times pilgrims from various districts assemble here in large numbers.
 
Thirukoshtiyur
 
It is situated 8 kms from south of Thirupathur and 24 kms of Sivagangai on the Thirupathur-Sivaganga Road. Thiru means sacred, koshty means assembly and Ur means place i.e. place of sacred assembly.This place is famous for the Vaishnative temple. The tower of the temple is 85 ft. in height.The golden kalasam is 5 ft. high and a circumference of 6.25 ft.Though festivals take place all around the year the most important festival held in May every year attracts a large number of Vaishnavite pilgrims and devotees.
 
Nattarasankottai
 
It is situated 9 kms to the north-south of Sivagangai on the Madurai- Thondi Road. Nattarasankottai is derived from the word Nattu means country, arasan means king and kottai meaning fort. At Nattarasankottai there are Kannudayanayaki Amman Temple, The Shiva temple and Vishnu temple can be visited.
 
This place is widely famous for the tomb of Tamil poet Kambar, the author of Kamba Ramayana. Tourists and pilgrims from various parts of Tamil Nadu come here to worship Goddess Kannudayanayaki Amman during Tuesdays and Fridays.
 
Kollangudi
 
It is 10 kms from east of Sivagangai on the Madurai Thondi Road. The name is derived from koon in Tamil means blacksmith and kudi means village. It was the place where arms and ammunition were made for Marudhu during his stewardship of the Sivagangai kingdom. The village is now famous for the Vettududaiya Kaliamman temple. The annual festival is held for 10 days in the month of April-May. 
 
Vettangudi Bird Sanctuary
 
The Vettangudi birds sanctuary is the natural habitat of winter migratory and residential birds and provides a safe place for roosting, breeding and feeding. There is considerable diversity in their nesting and feeding behaviour. This place is near Tiruppathur. It is about 51 kms from Madurai and 22 kms from Melur Nearest Railway Station which is Kariakudi. The
 
Vettangudi Bird Sanctuary is situated over 39.9 hectares and it covers the 3 tanks of the Vettangudi, Periyakollukudi and Chinnakollukudi villages in the area of operation. Planning activities will be taken up in the tank areas. The recreational and Channel desilting activities will be done in the village area. The sanctuary is located to the left of Thirupathur and Madurai when you travel from Thirupathur.
 
Thayamangalam
 
Thayamangalam is situated 20 kms from Sivagangai and 20 kms from Paramakudi. It is very near to Ilaiyankudi. In the Mariamman Temple grand festival is celebrated in April-May every year for 10 days.
 
Madapuram
 
Madapuram is situated in Sivaganga District 35 kms distance from Sivagangai and 30 kms from Madurai. It is popular among the domestic temples dedicated to Adaikkalam Katha Ayyanar and Kaliamman. A lot of pilgrims as well as tourists visit this temple every day.
 
Chettinadu
 
Chettinadu is a railway station. Located on the Chennai-Rameswaram railway line, which acts like gateway to Chettinad. The heritage area lies 12 kms north of Karaikudi and is 16 kms south-west of Kanadukathan. The NH210 of Trichy- Rameswaram road is pass on this heritage area. The nearest airports are in Thiruchi and Madurai at a distance of 100 kms and 85 kms.

Piranmalai
 
Piranmalai is to the north-west of Thirupathur fro 24 kms, 58 kms from SIvagangai and 194 kms from Rameswaram. This place is situated at the bottom of the high mountain 2,500 feet in height. There is a Piravar temple and Mosque of Sheik Abdullah. It is a place of pilgrimage for muslims. There are five peedas in the rock called pandavas theerthams. The feet of the hill there is a fort Marudhu. It is a historic place where one of the seven vallals namely parri lived and ruled the area. The parri vizha is being celebrated every year in this village.
 
Thirupathur
 
Thirupathur is situated at Sivagangai district, 27 kms from Sivagangai 22 kms away from Karaikudi. It is popular among the domestic temples dedicated to Thiruthallinathar and Sivakama Sundariamman. The temple attracts a lot of pilgrims as well as tourists visit this temple daily.

Vyranvanpatti is situated at Sivagangai district, Thirupathur taluk 7 Kms away from Thirupathur. It is popular among the domestic temple dedicated to Rollesh water and Vadiudiya amman. It is on of the Nattukottai Chettiar temple. Temple festival celebrated every year in the month of November, December and April.
 
Thirupachethi
 
Thirupachethi is situated at Sivagangai district, 25 kms away from Sivagangai 32 kms away from Madurai. It is popular among the domestic temple dedicated to Thiru Nokkiya Algiya Nathar, Poongkulaziamman temple. The devotees worship the lingams. Lot of pilgrims as well as tourists visit this temple daily.
 
Idaikattur Church
 

Idaikattur Church is the sacred heart shrine built with full of arts in Gothic architectural style on the model of the Rheims Cathedral in France. All those beautiful statues were brought from France 110 years ago to Idaikattur. There are relics of 40 saints kept on the main altar only in this shrine. Secondly, it is believed that there is a historical event that took place 110 years ago when this Church was built. It is said that 9 choirs of angels appeared and solved a great problem. The location of the shrine it is 36 kms away from Madurai on the way to Rameswaram on the Main Road at Muthanendal.
