Responsible ecotourism includes programs that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, an integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities for local communities.
India currently should focus on key areas to take responsible tourism in a big way in the years to come.
1. To respect local cultures - traditions, religions and built heritage.
2. To protect the environment - its flora, fauna and landscapes.
3. To conserve natural resources - from source to destination.
4. To benefit local communities - both economically and socially.
5. To minimize pollution - through noise, waste disposal and congestion.
India is emerging as a favoured Responsible tourism destination.
India is emerging as a favoured Responsible tourism destination. The vast and diverse population with different segments of scope and activity is the main plus point. There has to be more synergy between tour operators, government agencies and non profit organisations along with local population. The aim must be to protect the heritage of our country which in turn will benefit both the local communities and the tourists. |
